What it is.

A forensic attempt to recover files that are deleted, lost, or inaccessible — from working and failing storage media.

When a file is deleted, it isn’t immediately gone from the drive — the space it occupied is just marked as available. Until something else overwrites it, a forensic tool can often recover it. The same is true for formatted drives, corrupted file systems, and drives with failing hardware. The key is acting quickly and not writing additional data to the drive.

We attempt recovery from hard drives (HDD and SSD), USB flash drives, SD cards, and external drives. For drives with hardware failure — clicking, not spinning, or not detected — we use a multi-pass imaging approach to extract as much data as possible before the hardware fails completely.

02

What’s included.

A careful, methodical recovery process that maximizes your chances without risking further damage.

01
Drive assessment

We start by imaging the drive — making a sector-by-sector copy — before doing anything else. This preserves the original state and gives us something to work from.

02
File recovery attempt

Using forensic tools, we attempt to recover deleted files, reconstruct corrupted file systems, and extract files from formatted partitions.

03
Review and verification

We show you what we recovered and verify the files are intact. You tell us what matters most, and we focus on confirming those files are readable.

04
Secure delivery

Recovered files are delivered on a clean drive or via secure transfer. We document what was recovered, what wasn’t, and why.

03

How it works.

01

Stop using the drive

Critical first step

The most important thing you can do is stop writing data to the affected drive immediately. Every new file written reduces the chance of recovering what was there before. Get in touch before you do anything else.

02

Consultation and quote

Free, no obligation

Tell us what happened and what you need to recover. We’ll give you a realistic assessment of what’s likely possible and a written quote.

03

Imaging and recovery

2 – 5 business days

We image the drive and attempt file recovery. For failing drives, we use multi-pass imaging with ddrescue to extract data even as the drive deteriorates.

04

Review and delivery

You confirm before you pay

You see what we recovered before the job is complete. We don’t charge for a recovery that didn’t get you what you needed.

04

Common questions.

Can you recover files from a dead hard drive?

Depends on the type of failure. Drives with bad sectors, corrupted file systems, or firmware issues — often yes. Drives with severe physical damage to the read heads or platters require clean-room recovery, which is a different category of service we can refer you to. We assess the drive before making any promises.

My SSD failed. Can anything be recovered?

SSD recovery is more complex than HDD recovery. When an SSD fails, data may be partially or fully unrecoverable depending on the failure mode. TRIM-enabled SSDs that have been running for a while may have already wiped deleted files. We’ll assess the situation and give you an honest answer.

How much does data recovery cost?

It depends on the type of drive, the nature of the failure, and the amount of data involved. We quote every job individually after a free assessment. You know the price before we start, and you only pay if we recover what you need.
